Getting Started with SWLA-LINK

This guide walks you through the basic steps required to connect to the SWLA-LINK digital voice and RF-to-IP network.

Step 1: Licensing & Requirements

Transmitting on SWLA-LINK requires a valid amateur radio license. Listening and monitoring are open to the public.

  • FCC-issued amateur radio license
  • Radio or hotspot supporting a compatible digital mode
  • Internet connectivity (direct or via hotspot)

Step 3: Program Your Radio or Hotspot

Program your radio or hotspot using the appropriate software for your device and chosen digital mode.

  • Use the correct talkgroup, room, reflector, or node
  • Verify your callsign and ID configuration
  • Test audio levels before regular operation

Step 4: Operating Guidelines

  • Identify with your callsign as required by FCC
  • Listen before transmitting
  • Follow generally accepted amateur radio practices
  • Respect ongoing nets and emergency operations
